Wherein We Get Really Up Close and Personal With Bloody Face:
American Horror Story 2.06 Promo/Preview “The Origins of Monstrosity” VIDEO:
Just when you thought things would soon be getting much better for Braircliff resident reporter “Lana Winters” (Sarah Paulson), with the help of “Dr. Thredson’ (Zachary Quinto), things instead got much, much, worse. The reveal of Bloody Face, (despite critics’ comparisons to the shock of the reveal of ‘Bob,’ Laura Palmer’s killer in Twin Peaks) really wasn’t much of a surprise to the audience. Hints abounded from the name “Thredson” for a guy that sews body parts to himself (and makes lamp shades from skin and candy dishes from skulls) to the insistence that ‘Kit’ go through the exact scenario of his kills–even though he couldn’t remember–but the ‘Dr.’ did (!) to Thredsons’ bizarro desensitization ‘conversion therapy’ ‘ for Lana in which he showed her (female) pornography while inducing vomiting through a morphine IV. He’d also been very non-professional (to say the least) in snooping around Lana’s house to find intimate snaps of her now-dead girlfriend.
Thredson was always a suspect I thought, because he was too goody-goody to be for real. I would guess that Lana would have had second thoughts about him too, if she hadn’t been doped up, shocked in the cranium, and willing to do anything to get out of Briarcliff.
And so the identity of Bloody Face has been revealed– but what is to become of Lana? It seems that there’s only 2 ways to go for her–death or escape from Bloody Face–but does anyone survive such an encounter? I’m thinking whomever is the real ‘Doctor Thredson’, did not.
OTOH, we know that 1964–present time in the story–is the year that Briarcliff as an insane asylum for the criminally ill closes down so perhaps there’s a slight chance that the story will get out—some permutation of it anyway as we know that Bloody Face (or someone/thing resembling him) continues his hobby into present day.
American Horror Story - Asylum
Episode 2.06 – The Origins of Monstrosity Synopsis

American Horror Story – Season 2 – Sarah Paulson interviews
He did say they’re not done with therapy, so what can you tease of the new horrors she’ll be facing?
Paulson: It makes Briarcliff look like the Four Seasons. It makes Briarcliff look like a spa you go to in the Swiss Alps or something to be medicated and tended to is what it makes it look like compared to what happens to her. Yeah.
When Rubber Man was unmasked in Season 1, and as we learned more about the ghosts, they became less scary and more humanized. Do you think that will happen now that we know who Bloody Face is?
Paulson: I don’t know about a human side. Part of what’s so beautiful about having an actor as emotionally available as Zach is you will at least understand the why behind Bloody Face’s actions. I don’t know if that will make you feel less terrified of him or more terrified of him.
And will we get answers as to why we’re seeing Bloody Face and the copycats in the future?
Paulson: Oh, yes you will. That won’t be revealed until probably closer to Episode 9. I don’t know that everything will be explained in [Episode] 9, but you will start to understand that part of the story more clearly by around Episode 9.
She’s not alone in the lair — with her girlfriend Wendy’s body there, frozen and now toothless. How will being that close to her impact Lana? Will it motivate her?
There are things that are revealed in episode six in terms of why Lana was chosen by Dr. Thredson. You’ll see in the setting of episode six how Wendy is involved in helping her and the underlying engine in Lana’s survival. She has to survive and it’s not for herself, it’s to avenge what happened to Wendy and to expose Bloody Face for who he is to whomever will listen. I can’t promise you that she ever gets out of the lair to do that but that’s what she wants and Wendy is very much a part of that. You’ll see in episode six what he does and how Wendy is involved in that in a peripheral way that is very present for Lana.
